Short answer
No need to empty the stack. Per the Pylontech US2000C manual: switch the new battery on alone first and check there is no alarm (it has been stored since 2021); Pylontech recommends the newest battery as master; after connecting, keep the system idle at least 15 minutes or until the charge LEDs differ by one LED at most.

There is no need to wait until the batteries are empty. According to the Pylontech US2000C manual:
1. Before connecting it, switch the new battery on alone and check there is no alarm (ALM LED off): it has been stored since 2021, and Pylontech recommends a recharge every 6 months.
2. Pylontech recommends using the newest battery as master (unless your current master is a US3000C). The inverter cable and the Pylon-Monitor cable (CONSOLE port) therefore go on the master.
3. After connecting, keep the system idle (no charge or discharge) for at least 15 minutes, or until the charge LEDs of all batteries differ by one LED at most, then resume normal operation.
