I made the RJ11 adapter cable from your guide and swapped pins 2 and 3, but I still get no data

Short answer

The contacts were counted over the 6 positions of the plug, which shifted the wiring by one and left ground unconnected. Count only the 4 metal contacts: 1 to 4. Without ground no data passes, whichever way RX and TX are wired. Also unplug any other console cable while testing.

Customer J. 🇩🇪 Germany Question

I want to connect the Pylon-Monitor to my battery, which only has an RJ11 console port. I followed your guide but cannot get any connection, and I also swapped pins 2 and 3, still no data. Photos of both connections are attached. Data retrieval over RS232 to USB works with SolarAssistant, which the Pylon-Monitor should replace.

Thanks for the clear photos. On the RJ11 plug you numbered the contacts 2-3-4-5, by the 6 positions of the plug. Our guide counts only the 4 metal contacts, 1-2-3-4, so your wiring is shifted by one contact and the ground wire is not connected at all. Without ground no data can pass, whichever way RX and TX are wired.

With your numbering, the correct wiring is: RJ11 "3" to RJ45 pin 6, RJ11 "4" to RJ45 pin 3, RJ11 "5" to RJ45 pin 8 (ground), and RJ11 "2" stays unconnected.

Please also unplug the SolarAssistant cable while testing, as the Console port can only talk to one device at a time.
